Season 5 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) continues from Nov. 7-16 at the Golden Gates Casino in Blackhawk, Colorado. The stop will feature a $200,000 guaranteed $1,100 buy-in Main Event beginning with Day 1a on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 12 p.m. Two subsequent starting flights will be held at the same time on both Friday and Saturday.
Golden Gates Casino and Poker Parlour. The poker room at the Golden Gates is the most famous in town, as this 18 table room annually hosts two stops in the televised and increasingly popular Heartland Poker Tour. The timing of these stops changes from year-to-year, but roughly they’re scheduled in February and September.
This marks the second time the MSPT has visited the property. The first time, which took place in March of this year, 453 entrants took to the felt and crushed the guarantee by creating a prize pool of $453,000. Dan Colpoys, who bagged the Day 2 chip lead and going wire to wire on Day 3, won that tournament for $114,156.
“The Mid-States Poker Tour is excited to return to Colorado. Golden Gates Casino knows how to host a big-time poker tournament, which was evidenced by our first stop at the property. We’re expecting things to be even bigger and better the second time around,” said MSPT owner and operator Bryan Mileski.
The MSPT Golden Gates is also one of the last opportunities players will have to accumulate precious Player of the Year points. Right now Michael Deis leads that race with 3,350 points, but MSPT Team Pro Kou Vang, who finished fifth in the last MSPT Golden Gates, is hot on his heels with 3,100 points. Likewise, Jason Zarlenga, who has won two MSPT titles this season, is sitting with the same amount of points. For a look at the full MSPT Season 5 POY leaderboard, click here.

The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) will stop at the Golden Gates Casino in Blackhawk, Colorado this weekend. This is the first time that the MSPT has come to the Golden Gates Casino and Tony Niehaus, the poker room manager at Golden Gates is expecting a good turnout.
Last week, the MSPT was at the Majestic Star Casino in Gary, Indiana where it paid out $77,681 to Ken Baime after he beat a playing field of over 300 players. The tournament at the Golden Gates Casino will run for a period of 3 days and have a $200,000 guarantee for the main event.

The Golden Gates casino has played host to a number of events including the Heartland Poker Tour but this will be the first time that it hosts the MSPT. Bryan Mileski who is the MSPT owner and operator was happy to add a new stop to his tour. He said
We’re very excited for the MSPT to visit Colorado for the very first time. The venue is among the most scenic we’ve ever visited, and the excitement for a brand new stop seems to be at an all-time high. The MSPT is definitely going to make its mark on Blackhawk.
Most poker tour events last for just two days but the tournament at the Golden Gate casino is scheduled for three days. This is because the Casino has only 17 poker tables and needs the extra day to accommodate the huge turnout of players that they expect. The casino is situated in an extremely scenic location and also has a new look as it went through a renovation in 2013. The poker rooms at the Golden Gate are now extremely comfortable and are equipped with flat screen TV’s, high speed wireless internet, new chairs and carpets.
The Golden Gates is well prepared to host the MSPT. Niehaus who is in charge of organizing the tournament was confident that his staff would be able to run a successful event. Niehaus said
We have a long track record of running big tournaments that are similar to the MSPT and very successful, so our staff should be more than prepared for yet another one coming into town. We have been making it a point to strongly promote the MSPT coming to the Golden Gates through social media, paperwork in the poker room, schedules and structures throughout the casino, and dealer buttons on the tables for a few months now. We believe good news travels fast and it shouldn’t take long for this thing to catch on big time around here
